Camano Construction

Camano trawlers are built in Delta, British Columbia by Camano Marine LTD.  The company has been producing Camanos since 1990.   Currently there are over 250 vessels plying the coastal waters of the United States and Canada.

Camano Marine LTD takes great pride in building quality.  They maintain a modern production plant, employ skilled specialists and use well-respected techniques, as well as time-tested materials and equipment.  Camano trawlers are not massed-produced.  Each year no more than 36 vessels are manufactured.  The result is that a prospective owner can be assured that their vessel will have received pains-taking attention-to-detail.  Further, each hull is sea trialed, prior to shipment, to ensure proper working order.
Here are some of the steps and techniques used in manufacturing a Camano.

Fiberglass
Camano Marine LTD employs skilled specialists to hand-lay  fiberglass on each hull. This technique (as opposed to spraying fiberglass with a chopper gun) ensures consistency and strength in hull laminations.  Solid fiberglass is utilized below the waterline.
Closed-cell Foam Coring
Above the waterline, closed-cell foam coring is applied for strength and stiffness, as well as thermal and noise insulation.
One-piece Grid System
In 2002 the manufacturer developed a structural one piece grid system.  This, too, provides stiffness and rigidity to the vessel, while giving a much brighter and easier-to-maintain surface to the interior of the boat.
  Cabin Sole
The cabin sole is constructed of composite materials and is extremely well insulated.  The net result is quiet performance from the Volvo diesel.
Dripless Stuffing Box
The Camano also features a dripless stuffing box, which provides a dry bilge.
Superstructure
The superstructure is designed with several non-opening and five opening, laminated safety glass windows.  These smaller, heavy-framed units maximize reliability in heavy seas, while providing optimum visibility and light to the cabin.
Finishing Touch
Finishing touches are being applied to the flybridge deck mold.  Here end-grain balsa coring is used to provide rigidity over this wide span.
Bow Thruster
The bow thruster, which is standard on the Camano, is an 8-inch, 5 horsepower, 12-volt unit.  This practical addition makes docking easy in any breeze!
Quality
Camano's long-time foreman, Sarkis Yazbek, ensures that the quality produced by his team is second-to-none.  The component pictured here is a custom-designed and –manufactured muffler, which exceeds the efficiency of off-the-shelf muffler units.
Air Conditioning
Optional air conditioning is installed under the salon settee with mounts and insulation to minimize noise.
Master Carpenters
Master carpenters construct each cabinet from the highest quality, marine-grade components.  All interior trim is select mahogany, hand-varnished to a high-gloss finish.
